Our Providers

We currently have two physicians and three physician assistants working full-time at Aurora Family Medicine Center.  All patients are assigned primarily to one physician, though they may see any provider, depending on availability and patient preference.

Richard A. Patt, M.D.

Dr. Patt founded the Aurora Family Medicine Center in 1976 after completing his Family Medicine Residency training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. The practice has been serving the Aurora and Southeast Denver Metro area since then. He has continued his association with the University, teaching medical students, interns, and residents in the Family Medicine Department. He is interested in all aspects of Primary Care, including children, adults, and geriatrics. He also spends time doing clinical research in the practice setting. In addition, Dr. Patt maintains a special interest in smoking cessation, and has lectured many different doctor groups on the subject.

Barry R. Sundland, M.D.

Dr. Sundland grew up in St. Louis and attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis for undergraduate school. He then earned a graduate degree from the University of Notre Dame before returning to St. Louis for medical school. He moved to Denver in 1983 for his Family Medicine residency at the University of Colorado. Upon graduation in 1986, he began practice in Aurora and joined Aurora Family Medicine Center in 1989. Has one daughter who is also a physician. He enjoys a variety of activities including tennis, skiing, biking and hiking 14ers.

Candace Bassett, PA

Candace is the newest provider to join Aurora Family Medicine Center. After graduating from the University of Colorado Boulder with her Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Physiology, she worked in the Integrative Physiology of Aging Laboratory helping coordinate clinical research studies aimed at improving healthspan, not just lifespan in middle aged and older adults.  After working in research for 6 years, Candace was accepted to the Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant Program at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus.  During her training, she grew to love working with patients of all ages and decided Family Medicine would be the best fit for her.  Candace has a passion for preventative medicine after her years in research and she took a great interest in women’s health during her training at CU.  Outside of work, Candace enjoys camping, boating, waterskiing, hunting, fishing, hiking, snowboarding and cheering on the Buffs and Broncos.  Candace is married and lives in the Aurora area.

Bruce has been with the Aurora Family Medicine Center for over 20 years. He enjoys the great diversity of patients that he has seen over the years, the continuity of care and the medical relationships he has developed with our patients. He also finds it very rewarding working with the pediatric patients and watching them grow. He moved to Colorado from New Jersey many years ago to attend undergraduate school at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He fell in love with the state and never left - except for the three years he attended Duke Medical School in North Carolina, to obtain his physician assistant degree. He and his wife have been married for over twenty five years and have two older children. They enjoy taking advantage of all the various recreational activities that Colorado has to offer. He is also an avid fiction reader in his spare time.

Andrea joined Aurora Family Medicine Center in 2005. After graduating from Syracuse University with a Bachelors of Science, she completed her post-graduate degree in the Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant program at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. In conjunction with earning her Physician Assistant accreditation, Andrea also completed her Master’s Degree. Her dissertation focused on Non-Estrogen Based Therapies for Postmenopausal Women suffering from hot flashes. Andrea loves practicing all aspects of family medicine with special emphasis on women’s health and female adolescent care. She enjoys staying active, skiing, watching sports of any variety, cooking and is an avid Bronco and Syracuse Orange fan! Andrea is married and lives in the Denver area.
